Best practices call for creating standard operating procedures for all critical equipment in the tunnel, which covers diagnosing common problems, preventive maintenance, as well as repairs and maintenance. When it comes to diagnostics, the theory is based on reverse engineering an issue, which involves a logically designed sequence of events.

SKILLS

Regularly scheduled preventive maintenance is critical to consistent wash quality, it extends equipment life, reduces premature capital replacement expenditures, and maximizes uptime. Execution of maintenance can be aided by monitoring technology that provides an advanced warning of abnormalities, alerts of upcoming scheduled maintenance, SOP for repairs and a diagnostics protocol for tunnel issues. If you don't schedule preventive maintenance, the equipment will schedule it for you.

Each chemical product requires a precise and sometimes individual setup from the tank to the car for consistent and superior wash quality. Chemicals must flow through properly sized (based on distance from delivery system to the applicator) tubing, specific to within a tenth of a mil, based on factory recommended back pressures. Also, treated water must be blended strategically and calculated at the proper gpm.

The tunnel components and configuration need to be balanced to maximize performance, inclusive of: conveyor aor belt chain speed, product specific applicator types, cleaning products dwell time, friction equipment placement, high pressure and fresh water rinse cycles, and end of tunnel product sequencing and setup, inclusive of blower placement, with the proper horsepower, drip space and flash blower, as well as tire shine operations and setup.
